This decorative vase is made of pine wood and elaborated with hand-carved appliqués, by El Maestro Gilberto Granja, in the Barniz de Pasto technique. Masters of this technique pluck young sprouts from the Mopa Mopa tree. After being cleaned, crushed, and boiled down, the putty is stretched by hand, like a taffy, to create thin sheets of appliqués which are then applied to the planter/vase. Finally, designs are hand carved to depict the indigenous cultures, flora and fauna of Colombia. You can see him in action on our Artisans page!

FYI - By design, this is a decorative piece. However, for those resourceful individuals who don't mind a little risk, it can become more functional.

Size: height = 8 in, top diameter = 8 in

Region: Putumayo/Nariño, Colombia

Care: These are ornamental pieces and can be dusted off with a damp cloth and dried with a soft, dry cloth. They should never be submerged in water or exposed to corrosive or abrasive elements.
